Biogas and biomethane
What is it?
Decomposing biomass releases so-called biogas into the atmosphere, which consists mainly of methane. Conducting this process under controlled conditions makes it possible to collect the biogas and use it for energy production. Purifying the biogas into biomethane allows it to be injected into the gas grid.
Stable source of green energy
Biogas and biomethane are renewable energy sources which production does not depend on weather conditions. It offers the possibility of storing energy in the form of gas.
Biomethane Potential in Poland
The conclusions of reports examining the potential for biomethane production are favorable to the dynamic development of this sector in Poland.
- Poland is an important European and global producer of high volume of agricultural and horticultural products as well as products of animal origin.
- The surface area of agricultural land in Poland is 15.4 million ha, which constitutes nearly 50% of the total area of the country.
- Poland is 5th among European countries in terms of potentian biomethane production.
