Michałowo biogas plant joins the Galia Green Power portfolio

The Michałowo biogas plant has been part of the local energy system for more than a decade. The plant operates in cogeneration, producing electricity and heat simultaneously. With total installed capacity of 1.2 MW, it can generate around 10,000 MWh of electricity and around 36,000 GJ of heat per year.

Heat from the plant supplies public buildings such as the local clinic, schools and the municipal swimming pool. Beyond producing renewable energy, the biogas plant therefore also acts as a local combined heat and power station covering part of the municipality's heat demand.

Priority: efficiency and stable operation

After taking over the plant, we will focus first on a technical review of the site and on improving its operational efficiency. Our goal is to optimise the biogas production process, increase operational stability and improve the parameters of heat supplied to the municipal district heating network.

Local feedstock and digestate for farmers

The Michałowo plant uses local agricultural feedstock to produce biogas, primarily maize silage, grass silage, manure, slurry and organic residues from the food processing industry. Digestate produced during biogas generation returns to farmers as a full-value organic fertiliser.

We will also assess options for further development of the site. The review will cover technological potential, feedstock availability, opportunities to make better use of heat and possible expansion paths.

Third biogas plant in our portfolio

The Michałowo plant is the third biogas installation in our portfolio. Last year we acquired biogas plants in Iłówiec Wielki in the Wielkopolskie Voivodship and in Drzonowo in the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship.
